  • ENEX (European News Exchange) is a non profit organization for the exchange of News footage and transmission services between television broadcasters.

In order to respond to the growing but costly need for satellite transmissions from the trouble spots on earth, the TV stations of the RTL Group (formerly CLT-UFA) founded 1994 the News Organization ENEX. Goal of the organization: exchange of news pictures, joint exploitation of technical equipment and a common satellite transponder.
  • The number of reservations on the satellite increases regularly

Major breaking news events like the death of Pope John-Paul II and the Mideast crisis in 2006 led to new all-time highs regarding monthly volume of transponder booking time.

ENEX handles 18 permanent digital Satellite channels on Eutelsat W2M and W2A. During breaking news and special events or following requests from ENEX Partners, additional ad hoc capacity is leased, sometimes doubling or even tripling the overall space capacity.

Depending on their financial contribution to ENEX, Member Stations are allocated daily so-called "Blockbookings" to cover their News prime time.
  • ENEX has a 24h sublease agreement for 18 channels on the Eutelsat W2M & W2A satellite The footprint of the satellite allows transmissions from Scandinavia to North Africa, from Ireland to the Ural, including news generating regions as the Middle East, Iraq or Afghanistan.
